Home Safety Tips for Babies

Install screens or window guards on all windows to prevent children from pushing or opening them. Screens alone are not sufficient to prevent a child from falling out of a window.

Ensure all electrical outlets in the home have safety covers. If possible, use furniture to block or cover outlets with safety covers that are not easily swallowed by children to prevent choking hazards. Make sure all cabinets containing detergents or other hazardous materials are locked.

Install ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) in necessary areas, often the kitchen and bathroom, to prevent electric shocks.

Keep all wires out of reach of children.

Homes with children should not store firearms. The best way to protect children from firearm-related injuries is to keep firearms away from the home and community. If you have firearms at home, ensure they are unloaded, locked, and separate from ammunition. Keep all medications and wallets out of reach of children.
